FIRE AND ICE

Her earlier betrayal had frozen his heart and he'd felt alone, more alone than he'd ever been in his life. Segregated from the others. Accused of murder. Accused by her.
But her touch thawed his anger and doubt, dissolved his bitter loneliness.
With a frenzied passion he'd reached for her in turn, yanked at her shirt, molded his hand to her nape. Her skin blazed beneath his fingers.
"Do not seek for warm fire under cold ice," wrote Samuel Rutherford, Puritan preacher. Clearly the man had not touched Scully in the Arctic.
Two days on, Mulder still feels pyroclastic, a volcano disgorging lava in the Marianas Trench. Fire to ice, Dana Katherine Scully has branded him for all eternity.
